Overview

A non-exercise program is a way to deliver educational content in a programmatic manner. Create an NEP if you need to:

  1. Monitor how and when the patient views educational content
  2. Set a deadline for viewing content
  3. Assign an end-of-program questionnaire
  4. Send an email certificate of completion

Things to consider.

  • Keep each video concise and well organised. Educational theory informs that organising information into meaningful and manageable chunks makes it easier for learners to process, remember, and understand.
  • Determine if it's best to group all the content into one program or break it up and assign in phases or levels over time. Some patient groups may benefit by receiving content that is paced for them rather than receiving a large number of items all at once. Some will watch the entire group of videos in one sitting, which is not always optimal for information retention.

Steps to complete the task.

Example: You currently deliver a program to a group of patients in person over several weeks by speaking while showing a Powerpoint presentation. You are tasked with delivering the same program to a broader group of users to access via STEPS. You add audio narration to your presentations and save as video.

Before you create your program, add your videos:

  1. Add video to STEPS. Go to Content management by clicking the icon at the top of the screen or select  Content management from the menu. Click the Videos tab, then the Add video button.
  2. Follow the instructions. Click the box next to 'Non-exercise video', enter the Video title, description, and teaching points, and keywords if needed.
  3. Upload the file. Click the 'Choose file' button and locate your video to upload and once uploaded, add thumbnail images (these are generated from the video you uploaded).
  4. Tap the Save button. Continue this process until all your videos are added.

Now you're ready to create your program:

  1. Go to Content management by clicking the icon at the top of the screen or select Content management from the menu. Click the Programs tab, then the Add program button.
  2. Type the program name and click the Non-exercise program selection box.
  3. Click the Add video button. The default list shows videos added by your organisation. Since you previously added the videos, they will appear in the My videos list which is shown when you select My videos in the dropdown list in the search bar.
  4. Select the videos by clicking the selection box for each video.
  5. When all videos are selected, click the Next button.
  6. Set the Program Duration and add the Program Note. When ready, click the Save button.

The new program is now visible in the Programs list under My programs.
